Simone Biles continues to prove why she’s the GOAT.
After leading the U.S. women’s gymnastics squad to gold at the 2024 Olympics in the team all-around, the athlete took home gold during the individual all-around competition Aug. 1.
The 27-year-old, who became the first American to win gold twice in the category, captivated the audience with her dazzling routine in Paris. Brazil's Rebeca Andrade earned silver and Suni Lee, the other athlete representing USA during the competition, won bronze.
Simone, donning a dazzling blue number called the Luminous Legacy Competition Leotard adorned with blue stars and her signature bun, began strong on the vault with her eponymous move, the Biles II (a Yurchenko double pike). The risky move earned her 15.766 on her first rotation. She had some trouble on the bars when she had a form break where she bent her legs on the transition from the high bar to the law. She had a deduction, earning her a 13.733, which initially put her behind Andrade.
As the eight-time gold medalist continued, her family looked on in awe. Her husband Jonathan Owens, donning a Team Biles t-shirt, was seen cheering alongside her parents Ronald Biles and Nellie Biles. And stars including, Stephen Curry, Kendall Jenner and Tony Hawk were also cheering Simone on from the stands.
The Olympians’ latest wins come two days after their team—including Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles and Hezly Rivera—took home their first medals of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
“I feel like we all have more to give,” she told reporters in June, “We weren't under the best circumstances, but I feel like we have a lot of weight on our shoulders to go out there and prove that we're better athletes. We're more mature, we're smarter, we're more consistent.”
“I know we're stronger than what we showed in Tokyo,” she continued. “So, I think it has to be for us because it can't be for anybody else, ‘cause that’s not why we do it. We do it for ourselves and the love for the sport and the love for representing the U.S. So, we're going to go out there and we're going to do our best.”
